This power lift gate has had issues since the car had 15 miles on it. Some same as this, others being the dash display saying its ajar even though it's not.Also if it was parked on uneven ground sometimes was enough to flex the bodywork and tighten things up on one side. Try opening it at handle and lifting at the same time. Check body gaps between tail gate and tail light. Other than that could be the catch itself , needing adjusted or needing replaced. Worth a look.
