My husband, three teenage children, and I are planning to visit the Big Island for the first time in late July for eight nights. We have already booked a condo at Mauna Lani Point for the first five nights (thanks for all the great advice posted on the forum!). SonomaGal: Yes small town w/ easy beach access doesn't really exist on the Big Island. Kona is the closest but really touristy. With only 4 days on the Island I would suggest focusing on one region (unless you really like driving allot). Waiemea or Waikoloa area might be spots to stay.
