There is no real food preservation after the power is gone. The only way is to set up a self sustaining farm/trapping/fishing. Then level up cooking to 7 and you can cook with rotten ingredients. Jars are pointless, too few and consume lids, vinegar, sugar. Way too much effort for nothing.
