You can try a past save if it’s not too far back, you can try to go get another follower instead of serana, then go back and try to get her to follow you again, or you just do other stuff throughout skyrim until enough in-game time passes to cause her to start following again. 2 1. If you sent her back home, she should be in the main room of the castle. If she's not there, try looking in the place where you told her it's time to part ways. That happened to me once, and she stayed in the cave we were in, when I told her to part ways. I had to go back to that cave, and to get her back.
The absolute dumbest thing is that you can bring her to Fort Dawnguard first. Then Isran tells you to do what she tells you, despite her having a goddamn Elder Scrolls clearly visible on her back. And later on he acts surprised that you let this happen, which makes zero sense if you came back to see him first after Dimhollow Crypt.
